You request cover by posting a request on the Town Agencies page, where lawyers already attending that court can accept it.
- Open the Town Agencies page from the sidebar.
- Click New Request.
- Select the court location and date, plus a court number and time if you know them.
- Add the clients who need an agency. Acquit suggests clients with court dates matching the selected date and court.
- Submit the request.
Other lawyers at that court are notified automatically, and the request appears in the marketplace.
Tip: Requests for today or tomorrow are marked Urgent automatically, and you can untick the urgent toggle before submitting to override this.
Starting with the date instead of the court
Set the date and leave the court blank. Under Assign clients you’ll see everyone you have in court that day, listed as In court <date>.
Add one of them and Acquit fills in the court and courtroom from that client’s own court date. The court field flashes to show it was filled rather than typed. Anything you set yourself is never overwritten.
What happens when you change the date
Moving the date clears what it produced and reloads the client list for the new day, with no confirmation step. Your selected clients and the courtroom are cleared, because both belonged to the old sitting day.
The court is kept if you chose it yourself, and cleared if it was filled in from a client. Your agency notes and the time are never touched. Setting the date for the first time clears nothing.
Other request types
The form has three modes at the top: Appearance for a standard appearance request, Collection for collecting material from a prosecution agency, and Multiple Courts for creating up to 5 requests at once. See What is a collection request? and How do I create bulk requests for multiple courts? for details.
Tip: You can also create a request directly from a chat conversation and assign it to the person you’re chatting with (see How do I assign a request directly to someone from chat?).
