Firm Management Clients & assignment

How do I take over a file another solicitor holds?

Ask for it from the Firm view of the Clients page. Everyone in the firm can already open and work on every file. A transfer moves the allocation: whose match alerts fire, whose calendar the court dates sync to, and whose name signs generated documents.

  1. Switch the Clients page to Firm and tick the file, or several.
  2. Click Request transfer in the bar that appears, add a short note if you like, and send.

The holder gets one notification covering everything you asked for. Either they or a firm admin (owner, co-owner or admin) can approve or decline it.

While you wait

The row shows a Requested chip. If you change your mind, select the row and click Cancel request. A request nobody answers lapses quietly after 14 days.

When it’s answered

You’re notified either way, with the reason if one was given on a decline. On approval the file’s alerts, calendar sync and document signing all move to you; the previous holder keeps nothing, and the file simply leaves their list. If a colleague asked for the same file and was approved first, you’re told where it went.
