Tasks

How do I track time on a task?

Set an estimated time on a task, then update the time remaining as you work.

  1. Set an Estimated Time when creating or editing a task. Options range from 5 minutes to a full day (8 hours).
  2. Update the time remaining as you work. Reducing it below the estimate automatically moves the task to In Progress.
  3. Complete the task when finished. The time remaining is set to zero.

If you reset the time remaining back to the original estimate, the status reverts to its previous state.

The 5-minute default

New tasks start with a 5-minute estimate already selected: most tasks are short chase-ups. You can change it, or set it back to Not set, before saving.

Wherever Acquit adds up your day (the capacity bar on the home page, the busyness shading on date pickers), a task with no estimate still counts as 5 minutes rather than zero. Unestimated tasks never make a day look freer than it is.

Tip: Use the Today, Next, This Week, and All pills at the top of the Tasks page (plus the Overdue Only filter in the sort menu) to focus on what’s due.
