How do I use the benchbooks?

The official Queensland criminal benchbooks are republished inside Acquit and refreshed weekly from the courts’ current publications, so you’re never reading a stale copy.

  1. Open Community in the sidebar and choose Benchbooks.
  2. Switch between Supreme & District (the Criminal Directions Benchbook) and Magistrates Court (which includes the Bail, Domestic & Family Violence, Youth Justice, and Childrens Court benchbooks).
  3. Browse by chapter, or search across the whole benchbook (e.g. “provocation” or “joint enterprise”).

Tip: You can download a combined PDF of the full benchbook from the same page for offline use.

Jumping straight to the right chapter

You rarely need to hunt for the chapter yourself. Looking up an offence in the GOAT Tool, or opening a matched charge on a client’s Charges tab, shows a Related resources link where a benchbook chapter exists for that offence.
