Smart Matching matches a diary entry by its file number first; when there isn’t one, it goes by the client’s name in the event title. Matches land in the same pending queue described in the Smart Matching settings.
File numbers come first
If an entry contains a matter’s file number (set at import or in the Client details drawer), Acquit pins the match straight to that matter with no name guessing. An entry listing several file numbers attaches the date to each of those matters when you accept.
When a name has several matters
A name-based match on a person with several current matters shows a Matter chooser with Acquit’s best guess pre-ticked. Tick the matter (or several) the date belongs to before accepting; the match waits in the queue until you choose. Archived matters are never suggested.
Appointments without court details
An event whose title is just a client’s name (a conference, phone call or office appointment) still matches. It’s offered as a general event for that client rather than a court date, so meetings land on the matter timeline too.
