Link the files from the client’s Charges tab so they read as one matter: one card in the Charges tab and one combined feed on the Case Timeline. This suits two files run across separate listings, or two indictments at the same court that travel together.
- Open the client’s Charges tab.
- Click the … menu on a file and choose Link to another file under Matter.
- Tick the other file(s), optionally give the matter a name (“Robbery + drugs”), and click Link as one matter.
The linked files now sit under one matter heading, and their court dates and events merge into a single timeline feed. A hearing both files are listed for (same day, court, and courtroom) shows as one entry with a chip for each file.
Tip: the same drawer opens from the Case Timeline: click the small link icon in a matter column’s header.
Renaming a matter or file
Hover over the matter’s header (on the Case Timeline or the matter band in the Charges tab) and click the pencil icon to set or change its name; leave it blank to go back to showing the file number(s). Individual files work the same way: hover a file’s header bar and click its pencil to set a nickname, or use Edit File Details in the … menu for the full editor.
Unlinking
Open the … menu on a linked file and choose Unlink from matter. The files go back to standing on their own.
Note: linking is purely organisational: it moves no charges, changes neither file’s status, and files that committed up to a higher court are already connected automatically.
