Clients Matters & court dates

How do I add a court date to a matter?

You add a court date from the client’s matter, using the Add Court Date button.

  1. Open the client’s matter from the Clients page.
  2. Click Add Court Date. It sits on the matter’s Case Timeline and Schedule sections, and in the matter’s actions menu.
  3. Fill in the court (and court number, if you have it), the appearance type, the date, time and estimated duration, and optionally a reason, notes, and a link to a charge group.
  4. Save.

The court date appears on the matter’s Case Timeline, shows on your calendar, and (if your Outlook calendar is connected) syncs as its own entry. Acquit also checks it against the published law lists and flags any differences.

Note: if the person has more than one active matter, a Matter row asks which matter(s) the date belongs to; see “How do I add a court date, event, or task across several of a person’s matters?”.

Multi-day and all-day listings

The date button opens a calendar that also holds 1 day / Multi-day and All day, so a trial spanning several days is set in the one place. Pick the start, switch to Multi-day (your date is kept), then pick the last day. With All day set, no time or duration is needed.

Using your own appearance wording

The Appearance list holds the common types, but you are not limited to them: type your own wording into the dropdown’s search box and click the Add “…” row that appears. Acquit keeps it: next time your wording waits under Custom, and the types you use most sit at the top under Frequently used.

Tip: to move or reschedule an existing date, see “How do I adjourn and reschedule a court date?”.
