The onboarding wizard is an eight-screen setup that runs once, after checkout or joining a firm. Joining an existing firm covers your subscription and skips the payment step.
- Welcome: a one-line introduction and a Get Started button.
- Practice areas: choose your areas of law from a tile grid to tailor the experience. Firm members and Firm Accounts skip this screen (firm-level data).
- Bring your clients across: pick your practice management system (LEAP, Actionstep, Smokeball, Clio, FilePro, Affinity, or Other/CSV), follow its export guide, and upload the file.
- Who do you work with?: invite colleagues by email. If your firm isn’t on Acquit yet, that first invite creates it with you as admin; skip it to stay a sole practitioner.
- Connect your calendar: link Outlook so court dates sync automatically.
- What’s your style?: pick a theme and an accent colour.
- Turn on AI features?: briefings/outcome summaries and document reading, both on by default. Untick either to keep it manual; whatever the toggles show when you continue is saved as your answer.
- Profile photo: add one now or later.
Every screen except the AI step is skippable, with no back button, but everything can be changed later in Settings (AI features: Settings → AI). Leave mid-wizard and you resume where you left off.
The client import
Acquit imports your clients and immediately scans the published law lists for matches, so you start with a working client list. In a firm, you choose where each matter goes: to you, a colleague, or the firm’s pool for whoever picks it up.
If the firm already has clients in Acquit, the screen says how many; matches to existing files are flagged during import, not duplicated.
Click Ask for a hand to do the import with us on a call; the wizard carries on while the import waits for the call.
The calendar screen behaves differently in two situations: see How does onboarding handle my calendar and the firm’s shared diary?
Remaining setup steps move to a checklist: see What is the Getting Started guide?
Note: The wizard appears only once; afterwards, /onboarding redirects you to the dashboard.
