Your firm’s admins are notified, and nothing happens unless one of them accepts. A request on its own gives the person no access to your files and no seat on your plan.
Requests come from the sign-up page: when someone starts signing up with an email at your firm’s domain (e.g. [email protected]), Acquit spots the match and offers them an Ask to join them button.
- Open the Firm Console and go to the Members tab.
- Review the Join Requests card at the top.
- Click Accept to approve, or × to dismiss.
All firm owners, co-owners, admins, and the Firm Account hear about a request by both an in-app notification (with a Review button) and an email.
What clicking the button does
It does not pause their sign-up and does not send anything straight away. It records that they want to join, and we tell you once they have confirmed their email address. That way nobody can trigger a message to your firm just by typing one of your addresses into the sign-up page.
You hear about it whether or not they clicked; someone signing up at your domain is worth knowing about either way, and the wording tells you which it was.
When you accept
- If they already have an Acquit account, they are added immediately and any clients they were managing join the firm’s client pool. Acquit tells them how many clients moved, and if any look like files your firm already has, a separate notification points you at the Duplicates page.
- If they don’t have an account yet, they receive an approval email with a Complete Sign Up button, register with their email pre-filled, and join automatically.
If you don’t recognise the address
Dismiss it. They get in only when an admin accepts the request or someone at your firm invites them. The seat is added at that moment, so the person approving is the person spending it. Whoever it is does receive mail at your firm’s domain, though, so it is worth checking who still has a live mailbox.
